Touching Feet - “Aashirwaad”

   Posted by: Harshal   in Uncategorized

We were enjoying our dinner at “Changs” here in Pune. All of us were chit chatting and talking over various subjects.

I don’t know how but we started talking about this topic of Indian tradition and why do Indian’s touch feet for aashirwaad (blessings). India has this tradition of taking blessings from the one who is elder to you. The way you do it is you bow your head down to the other person’s feet touching their feet. The elderly in return will keep his/her hands over your head and will shower blessings.

Apart from all the religious sentiments which are behind this form of blessing there is also an interesting scientific rationale behind the same.

Human body is a magnetic pole. The two ends of body acts as north and south pole. The energy flows from north pole to the south pole. Now once we touch somebody’s feet, he has his energy flow which is flowing in his body. Since our head part is touching the other person’s feet, due to the magnetic effect (Opposite attract), the energy flows from the body of the person who is giving the blessings to the body of the person who is receiving it.

The idea of taking the blessings is precisely to get positive energy and wishes from the person. So remember this, the next time you touch somebody’s feet.
